Meet the maker - Mel, from Nomad Candle Co.
We are so excited to welcome Mel and her beautiful brand into our Makers & Merchants Barossa Collective. A teacher by trade, last year Mel left her full time role to focus on the brand she's been building since 2015. Now spending her time perfecting her craft, each candle is designed and made in her Barossa Valley studio. They evoke a sense of adventure and wanderlust, so that you can bring the feeling of exploring new places into your home.
What do you love about your brand?
The story. The all round good vibes. The experiences of being a creative maker with my Grandma when I was younger became a big part of why I began Nomad in 2014. I love that it has the potential to take me anywhere. I have taken a break from teaching to fully focus on Nomad over the last year - as it has grown beyond my wildest expectations.
The journey so far has been an exciting one...
Highlights have been working with Adelady, being involved in significant high end market events in Adelaide, supporting other local creatives with the release of The Artist Collection which features the tropical artwork from Natalie Broham Artistry; and the soon to be released The Artisan Collection featuring reusable porcelain vessels by Ringwood Arts Co. I will be continuing to collaborate with other SA creatives in the future. I am in the middle of working with another creative with an exciting top secret release coming soon!
Tell us something not everyone knows about your business...
Everything I know is completely self-taught. It's been an incredibly long journey to this point. Whilst I have no formal qualifications, I have spent years perfecting my skills and knowledge. There's no better satisfaction than to say, "I did that". The other hard thing is that as an artisan candle maker, I'm also the entrepreneur, bookeeper, marketer, inventory manager, social marketer, retailer and creator - everything for my brand is done by me. The only aspect that is outsourced is my photography, taken by Jade from Fable and Fig Photography and graphic design work by Bec Evans Design.

What we love about these candles are the perfect scent combinations, which you can test for yourself in our Tanunda store - Lemongrass + Sage, French Pear, Cactus Flower to name a few - they make the store smell amazing!!
